In the fall of 2012, a group of seasoned advocates for Israel came together as an ad hoc committee, with intention to formulate a focused campaign to persuade the Netanyahu Government to speak out for Israel’s rights.
Work was begun immediately to establish a Coalition and a list of Associates of the Coalition, all standing in support of the campaign. The committee—understanding that both timing and sensitivity to political climate were essential to achieving success—worked for a full year to put the campaign in place; consultations were held with a number of persons with expertise on the relevant issues: activists, MKs, former ambassadors.
It was decided that the campaign would focus on the Knesset, and sufficient funds to underwrite that effort were raised. In late October 2013, the ad hoc committee became a permanent Committee for the Legal Grounds Campaign. Professionals in various fields of expertise—public relations, social media, etc. —were employed to further the goals of the Campaign; a Legal Advisory Board was put in place.
The Campaign, from the beginning, has worked closely with the amutah Regavim.
Over time, the scope of the Campaign has grown. While our people still meet regularly with MKs and ministers, providing them with material and encouraging them to speak out, we also became convinced of the need for public education, both inside of Israel and beyond. Thus we have initiated a variety of programs and will continue to do so, drawing on skilled personnel as needed. We offer a course for law students and utilize the talents of a political cartoonist. We encourage people to join our campaign and put out Action Alerts.
We are pleased that we are solidly advancing towards our goal, one step at a time.
