Legal Grounds — the campaign promoting Israel’s rights, including Israel’s right to Jerusalem as its eternal united capital — wholeheartedly endorses this project:
Sundown, May 23, 2017 marks the beginning of Jerusalem Day, this year celebrating 50 years since the Jewish people regained control over and reunited its capital city.
Join us as we celebrate this momentous occasion by signing on to the historic Jerusalem Covenant.
The Jerusalem Covenant was written by Deputy Chief Justice Rabbi Menachem Elon as a renewal of the Biblical covenant between God and the people of Israel; it marked the miraculous return of the Jewish people to Jerusalem in June 1967.
His son, Rabbi Benny Elon, former MK and founder of the Israel Allies Caucus, worked within the Caucus to garner signatures to the Covenant. The Covenant, which is now displayed alongside the Declaration of Independence in the Knesset, was presented to the Government of Israel in 1992, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the capital’s liberation. Over the years, hundreds of visiting dignitaries have added their signatures to the original document. .
In recent years, the NGO Israel365 has encouraged the general public to add their names to a virtual Jerusalem Covenant; this will be presented to the Knesset to mark the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem’s reunification. Almost 100,000 people have signed on!
Now you also have a chance to sign.
MK Yehuda Glick (Likud), a great friend of Legal Grounds and a very active fighter for the rights of the Jewish people to the land of Israel, is an integral part of the team leading this effort.
